Dust Suppression in Opencut Mining – Fog Makers & Water Cannons
Fog makers are used to suppress airbourne dust, while water cannons are used to wet stockpiles to prevent dust becoming airbourne. The fog makers are usually located a distance away from the source of the fugitive dust and encapsulate the dust particles in the air, causing them to become heavy and fall to the ground.
Water cannons are usually mounted at the base of stockpiles and the water jet stream is broken up by a stream breaker which causes the stream to produce a mass of droplets that wet the entire stockpile.
